ViewSonic is pulling a marketing stunt by offering a money back guarantee on their newly released ViewPad 7 Android tablet. They will even put in a $10 postage fee in their reimbursement to make sure that you really do get to try it for free. So what’s the catch?
Nothing, other than the usual “promoter’s decision is final” type clauses. But that does not mean that you don’t have to buy them. Once you but it from an approved retailer and try it out, you have the option of claiming your refund between 20 and 30 days from the date on your invoice. Further more, it is only open to citizens of the UK, Luxemburg, France, Belgium, Ireland and Netherlands. You have until the 24th of the next month to avail of this offer.
They also have a maximum of 3 returns per household, based on the postal address. Which is quite generous actually. You can start sending
ViewSonic has recently started making interesting new-age gadgetry such as the ViewPad7 and TV’s with Boxee built right in to them. But this is the only model behind which they are putting their full weight. It is hard to tell though why they are trying to coincide their offer with the iPad 2 frenzy. Even though the ‘get it for free’ pitch often works, marketing experts have noted several times before that it can also backfire by reducing the perceived value of the product.
However, it is still to early in to the game for ViewSonic to go looking for response figures. So we’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out for them in the long run. There are already a lot of Android Tablets out there and hence it will be interesting if they succeed in gaining some kind of significance in an already crowded market.
