It’s 2012 and although it’s still early, here’s my top pick for the best zipping utility and CAB viewer for 2012.
If you do a little research you will find hundreds if not thousands of zipping utilities. And everyone has their own favorites.
Hands down, 7zip and WinRAR are probably the most popular alternatives to WinZIP. Especially the free 7-zip is immensely popular and is definitely a good pick. However, even 7-zip does not support as many formats as my top pick and does not come with command-line support.
My top pick for 2012 is called IZArc – http://www.izarc.org/
It supports a really great list of file formats like 7-ZIP, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, B64, BH, BIN, BZ2, BZA, C2D, CAB, CDI, CPIO, DEB, ENC, GCA, GZ, GZA, HA, IMG, ISO, JAR, LHA, LIB, LZH, MDF, MBF, MIM, NRG, PAK, PDI, PK3, RAR, RPM, TAR, TAZ, TBZ, TGZ, TZ, UUE, WAR, XXE, YZ1, Z, ZIP, ZOO
If you are intending to make ZIP archive from the command line, IZArc is the best choice for 2012.
Another highlight: It can automatically be configured to scan your archives when you open them. Handy!
Just thought, I would let you know of this amazing Zipping utility and CAB file viewer. Cheers.
