Disabling Java: How to turn off Java in Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer

Homeland security has recently issued a warning that Java is facing some serious security issues. Here is how you can disable Java in major browsers

Disable Java in Firefox 18

1. Step Open Firefox and click on the orange Firefox bar and select Addons

2. Step Go to the item “Plugins”

3. Step Scroll down until you find items labeled Java – disable them all. In this case, Firefox also shows a warning about Java 7 – Java 7 may not be as secure as the latest Java 6 version. Java SE 7 U9 10.9.25 is also outdated – the latest update is Java 7 Update 11, which means if you have a lower version you should also update to the latest version

 

Disable Java in Chrome Version 24.0.1312.52

1. Step Open Google Chrome and enter the following into the address bar chrome://plugins/

2. Step Now scroll down until you find the entry Java(TM) and click the blue Disable button

 

Disable Java in Internet Explorer 9

1. Step Click the gear icon and select Internet Options

2. Step Go to the tab security and select the item Custom Level

3. Step Now scroll down to the bottom and then up a little until you find Scripting of Java Applets, select the checkbox “Disable”
