The best free tool to find your product key for Windows 7, Vista and XP is the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder.
Well we don’t need to find it, we know where it is, but we have to read it. You could do that manually via the registry, but you would have to decode it.
The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware open source utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install Windows from your registry. It allows you to print or save your keys for safekeeping
A great advantage of Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is that you don’t have to install it.
When does Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder *not* work?
A disavantage is that it won’t work on for example DELL laptops. DELL laptops usually have two keys, one generic that allows the manufacturer to mass-produce laptops and one for a re-install and the enduser. You will need the latter one, but MJBK won’t be able to retrieve it! However, if you have already re-installed your system, MJBK will be able to retrieve it properly.
