I’ve mainly worked with 3dsmax and a little bit with Maya, so I really can’t comment on Unity 3D yet, but from what I’ve seen at the unity website and the live demos I can say that Unity 3D is probably one of the most up-to-date solutions for creating web games, mobiles games and other 3d video games. If you want to start developing games, this might be a good starting point.
